Who are you? Person – company and position?
Simon Lutterer, Global Enterprise Account Manager, Ansys
Why does your company support the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team?
We are delighted to be working with the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team on the world’s most prestigious electric car racing championship.
As the team’s official partner, Ansys helped pioneer the technological design of the Porsche 99X Electric, Porsche Motorsport’s first fully electric race car. Porsche Motorsport engineers used Ansys’ suite of physics-based simulation software solutions and embedded software development tools to create the advanced Porsche E-Performance Powertrain. This helps the Porsche 99X Electric significantly increase peak power and energy efficiency, giving it a critical edge on the competition.
We work with the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team because we share its focus on innovation. This will soon expand from the racetrack to the road, as the Porsche 99X Electric’s powertrain will help perfect e-mobility features and usher in a new era of passenger electric vehicles that will be more energy efficient than ever.
What are your goals regarding this partnership?
It is our goal to continue our valued relationship with Porsche and support its drafting of new chapters in e-mobility through simulation. This partnership supports our strategic pillars of sustainability combined with automotive technology, and showcases the strength and expertise that Ansys can provide to revolutionize e-mobility development in the future.
What was your most formative moment so far in relation to your commitment to the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team?
To design the formula for the Porsche 99X Electric’s powertrain, Porsche engineers leveraged Ansys’ system-level multiphysics solutions. Ansys took a unique approach to optimizing the powertrain behavior by including highly accurate models of batteries, inverters, motors, gearboxes, etc. This was combined with best-in-class robust design optimization strategies, allowing optimum electric powertrain system performance.
By leveraging these technologies, Porsche engineers reduced the need for physical prototypes, enabling virtual testing of design ideas to rapidly arrive at an optimum design. This delivered tremendous energy efficiency for vital subsystems and components, enabling the Porsche 99X Electric to sustain extreme speeds over long distances across the track.
A formative moment was seeing TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team driver André Lotterer claim a podium finish in Round 1 of the 2019/20 season. This moment showed us what we had achieved together and lay the groundwork for future success on and off the track.
What is it about the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship that fascinates you?
What fascinates me most about the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is that is a window to the future. This is a highly competitive and thrilling competition that is also fully electric and green, which supports our strategic initiatives at Ansys.
We are excited to be the first partner for simulation software in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and to partner with the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. Together we are opening the window wider on what can be achieved for the future of electric mobility.
What is your company doing to promote sustainability under the motto #makeitmatter?
