The Porsche 904 with its small frontal area of only 1.4 square metres, designed by F.A. Porsche, is the first Porsche with a fibre glass-reinforced plastic body. It is created in collaboration with Heinkel Flugzeugbau, an aircraft manufacturing company. In addition to 106 units with four-cylinder engines, works cars with 210-hp, six-cylinder engines and three 904 with eight-cylinder powertrains are created. Edgar Barth and Umberto Maglioli win the prototype class at the Targa Florio in 1964 in one of the eight-cylinder cars.
